April 27-28, 2010- CPI Hosts East African Awareness Week

TUESDAY: Come and join Child Protection International (CPI) in watching a screening of War Child, a critically acclaimed film following the life of a former child soldier. Join in an informal discussion afterward, in which we can discuss the movie as well as the situation in the Sudan. War Child is a film focusing on our protagonist Emmanuel Jal, who was a former child soldier in Sudan. He goes back to his homeland, and uses hip hop as a catalyst for bringing peace to his war-ravaged country.

WEDNESDAY: Interrupting Cycles of Violence: A discussion panel on the ongoing conflicts in East Africa, specifically Sudan. This event is the highlight of this week. Come and hear amazing speakers discuss current conflicts and issues affecting East Africa. Although we will be mainly concentrating on the Sudan, the issues that we will be discussing transcends this region.

February 1, 2010- SPLM-USA Votes New Chair, Setting the Stage for Future Elections

Bloomington, MN- The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) held its national elections this
week in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Mississippi’s delegate, Mangok Mangok Mayen, succeeded in his

bid for the chairmanship of the SPLM.  Previous leader, Muammar Gaddafi, failed in his bid to stay on

as president of the SPLM for another year.  More than 400 American-Sudanese attended the conference, with many driving more than 10 hours. Continue reading...
